Dead men Tell No Lies…
Could’ve, would’ve, should’ve…
In studying self-defense and trying to improve oneself, the only half of the equation that you really need to look at is the victor. What did they do? How did they do it? If the victor is the attacker - the “bad guy” - ask yourself how were they left standing at the end? Likewise, do not dwell upon the could’ve, would’ve, and should’ve of the victim. This sounds cruel but the facts are that they did not survive.
Violence is not sport. I need you to understand that self-defense is actually studying violence. And not violence in the way that a good, moral person would do it. But violence in the way that an actual attacker, an asocial predator, would do it. The answers are unsettling at best. But dead is dead. Whether it be from a gunshot, a knife stab, a car ramming, a beer bottle broken over the head or even a punch to the temple or throat. The end result is the same. The dead do not get back up.
