MEET YOUR ATTACKER
When it comes to being attacked in a self-defense situation, we can generally organize the attacker into the following “type styles.” All of these “styles” can be dangerous in their own way. The biggest thing any attacker has going for them is intent and rage. Be mindful and understand how to exploit their tendencies.
The Eight Attack Types:
“The Bar Guy” - swinging arm hits to the head; all haymakers; no real tactics.
“The Boxer” - combination punches to the head and maybe body; has had some training
“The Berserker” - Vertical ape like arm hits ala the video game “Donkey Kong.”
“The Gorilla” - hand pushing, finger poking, chest bumping followed up by a rabbit punch to the head.
“The Street Fighter” - 1-hand grabbing your clothes and the other hand punching; or 2-hands grabbing and doing a head butt; may also include pinning up against a wall and/or tackles to the one or both legs.
“Chuck” or “The Van Damme” - has taken a karate class or two; combo punches and kicks; kicks to the groin and or up high to head.
“The Wrestler” - lots of grabbing like bear hugs, head lock, chokes, etc.
“The Ninja” - use of any type of weapon or makeshift weapon - knife, broken bear bottles, ash trays, pool cues, baseball bats, crowbars, etc.
