"It's All in the Hands"

Like I mention in the video, this technique can be learned in minutes and with a little bit of practice. So, I encourage you to practice this technique at home in case you ever get into an altercation.  However, I need to point out to you that even though this technique CAN save your life (and your hands), it’s not the end all be all of self-defense training.

Effective self-defense training takes practice like anything else in life.

  • How did you learn to walk?   Practice.
  • How did you learn to drive a car?   Practice.
  • How did you learn how to do your job?   Practice.

Everything you do in life requires practice…if you want to get good at it. If you really want to learn how to defend yourself – in any situation – then you have to learn the right skills and practice them over and over and over again.

So, where do you learn the right skills and practice them?

The answer is simple. In a martial arts school. But here’s the problem with most martial arts schools nowadays… No one is teaching real “self-defense!”  Most schools fall into one of two categories.

You’ve seen these schools out there. They teach students (primarily children) how to “defend themselves” by teaching them watered down versions of a single martial art style. You've seen these schools. They all were nice uniforms and belts. They punch and kick in the air, break pine boards and even spar. And while these schools are good at what they do, they are not teaching real self-defense. They are, by definition, teaching a single art form. There are many issues with these schools when it comes to self-defense, but the biggest one is variety.

You see, these students only learn techniques from ONE school of thought and practice their skills against students who study the same martial art. In the real world, 99.9999% of the time a single-modality martial artist won’t be attacked by someone who fights like them.
Instead, they’ll be attacked by someone who is trained in a variety of martial arts, or they’ll be attacked by someone who has no training whatsoever but who is hell bent on injuring or killing them. This is a bad combination and, unfortunately, gives students of single-modalities a false sense of hope when it comes to defending themselves on the streets or in their own homes.

CATEGORY 2: Mixed Martial ArtisT (MMA)

Unlike “single-modality” martial arts students, some MMA students can defend themselves in the real world. Not all. But some. However, when it comes to real self-defense training, the biggest problem with MMA schools is that they end up training students for a “ground game” (taking opponents to the ground). While this is a vital skill to have (and only one of the skills MMA offers), taking someone to the ground in a real, violent situation is more often than not the WORST possible technique you can use. It can be devastating to your opposition in a controlled environment with a referee. But. This same mentally can get you killed in a street fight or similar altercation with multiple attackers and weapons.

Now, just to be clear, I don’t have a problem with either of these schools of thought. If you want to train in a single-modality martial art to learn the techniques and better yourself, then I say go for it. If you want to train in MMA to learn a variety of martial arts and hone your skills or get in the octagon for sport, then by all means have at it.

However, if you’re goal is to learn REAL self-defense – the kind of self-defense that can save your life or your family’s life one day – then I encourage you to find a school or teacher that will show you how to do that.

My school, the Pittsburgh Combat Club, is one of those schools.

  • You’ll have a safe place to train (no ego or testosterone-filled environment).
  • You’ll be trained in a variety of combative arts so you can find what best suits your needs (physical ability, mindset, style, etc.) and so you can defend yourself against any attacker.
  • You’ll be introduced to an encouraging support group that loves to teach, learn, and have fun.
  • And, most importantly, you’ll learn the techniques, mindset, attitude, and intent you need to survive and protect your family in any situation that life throws your way.

If that sounds good to you, then here’s what I’d like to do for you. I don’t want you to decide anything now.

Instead, I’d like to invite you to come check us out
and train with us for 2 FULL WEEKS – at no cost.

That’s right. You’ll have the opportunity to meet with me and my students, train with us, learn from us (and even laugh with us), and see if this is the right environment for you.

All without paying a dime.

If after the 2 full weeks of training you decide we’re a good fit for each other, then we’ll talk about the details of becoming a student. If you decide we’re not the right fit for each other, then we’ll part ways as friends and you’ll have some invaluable skills in your back pocket if anything ever happens to you or your family.
